Tech Field Day: WFD3

Tech Field Day connects independent bloggers, writers, and podcasters to IT product vendors. The event hosts a variety of gatherings that provide feedback for the vendors in a creative and interactive discussion. Each event is recorded and live streamed, continuing the collective experience.  For us, there are multiple set ups and tear downs following the delegates throughout the day. It's a wild ride, but it is also fun going to different companies. This past week, our production crews were split, one covering Tech Field Day in San Jose, California, and the other crew covering ERA D2C Las Vegas.

 

In a previous post, we talked a little about Tech Field Day on a smaller scale. However, this event spans multiple days. Here is our first three camera set up for WildPackets.

 

Afterwards, Aerohive hosted dinner at a stylish bowling alley.  This event wasn't recorded, but we made sure to take advantage of the interesting backdrop and shot the introduction video.

 

The next day, we went to Metageek, Ruckus Wireless, Tanaza, and ended with Meraki. Metageek had some pretty interesting interfaces, while Ruckus was clever with their treats in dog bowls. Tanaza came all the way from Italy to present to the delegates, and Meraki was situated in a trendy workspace.

The final day, we began at Aruba Networks, then went to Cisco, and ended at Juniper. Aruba hosted a delicious breakfast and we had to change set ups from the demo area to the presentation area. Cisco had an interesting dual screen set up, and Juniper hosted a very spacious area, making it easy for us to get coverage of all of the delegates.

 

Stephen Foskett, the main organizer for Tech Field Day, snapped this photo of us in action using our switcher. At these events, Twitter became a powerful tool for us. We would send out tweets when the stream was live or if we ever ran into problems. Incredible Luxury Home Tours

We love shooting homes, and this week, we were completely booked! On Tuesday, we drove up to Prescott, Arizona. The drive alone was absolutely gorgeous as the desert landscape became mountainous and wooded.

 

Preparing for the video tour of the home, our production coordinator took careful consideration to look over the notes we had been given to start scripting on the road. Usually the script is completed after arriving at the home. This allows us to walk through and highlight every focal point in the residence.

 

As we drove into cooler temperatures, we arrived at our destination and began taking photos. From there, we recorded the voice over and shot the rest of the property. It began to rain during the shoot, which added an extra challenge. However, we still managed to finish everything on time.

 

  

The next home was situated in Paradise Valley and had remarkable views of the Phoenician landscape. Using the lovely and talented Andi Barness, we had no problems making every detail of this estate truly shine.

 

In another blog post, we discussed the method of ear prompting. It a great technique that we love to use and allows us shoot in a timely manner. Here, Andi is about to do the last take at our third home.

Quick Trip to the Bay Area

Many of our clients are located in and around the Bay Area, giving us an opportunity to travel and see them. It's a lot of fun as many of these high-tech companies have amazing people that we love working with. This week, we went out for two jobs, one in San Jose, the other in San Francisco.

As we flew over the mountains surrounding the area, we were surprised at how dry everything was. Normally these hills are quite green. When we arrived, we had a couple hours to sight see and look around.

 

For this event, Ben and our new Production Coordinator, Andrea, went on the trip. We toured around Fisherman's Wharf, and soaked up as many beautiful ocean views as we could.

 

Soon enough, we had to get to our first job at Aruba Networks shooting and live streaming a conference. It was the first time we got to test our new case, as seen in our previous DIY adventure blog. 

 

Having everything ready to go in the box significantly cut down our set up and tear down time. As people began to fill the room, we were ready and streaming live.

 

Using the Switcher box gave us so much extra time that we were able to work for another client. This job was shooting a presentation and round table discussion for Tech Field Day. In two short weeks, we'll be back shooting with them once more. Stay tuned for that blog, it will definitely be interesting.

At the end of the day, we loaded up all our gear and our Bay Area visit came to a close. We really had a lot of fun using our new equipment setup, and can't wait to use it again.
