Corrosion Engineering: Slow Motion and Stellar Video

Corrosion Engineering, Inc custom designs and manufactures quality liners for the mining and aggregate industries. They have a unique and innovative method to create their liners, and are established locally, here in Arizona. To showcase their process, they asked for our help to produce an equally innovative and creative video.

 

Because of the grand nature of this production, the shoot required multiple days. For the most part, we shot the process in order, starting with shooting a time lapse of the designing process. To capture this successfully, we used our new GoPro Hero3 as well as our Canon 5D.

The next step required us to use our jib, which only took a couple of minutes to set up. It's a great tool to enhance the shots of our production and get to places that we would otherwise be unable to shoot.

  

With the GoPro attached to the plasma cutter, and the use of the Canon 5D, we captured remarkable shots that would rival Discovery's How it's Made.  Unfortunately, sparks from the plasma cutter melted our GoPro housing. We were lucky it didn't harm the camera at all--losing one piece of housing was merely a minor set back.

We continued to work through the many processes in creating these liners, which included the rubber shop. This was in a tighter space, yet gave us the ability to capture interesting shots of the machines working. For these smaller spaces the Glidecam became our best tool, producing steady shots of this stage.

For the last day of production, we finished shooting the process as well as captured establishing shots and pick up shots with the whole PrimeImage crew. The people at Corrosion Engineering were extremely helpful and fantastic clients to work with. Junior Achievement: A Great Cause on a Beautiful Day

At PrimeImage Media, we love working with our community. This past week, we had the opportunity to do business with Junior Achievement of Arizona for their "Open 4 Business" Golf Tournament. This event includes 260 top executives from leading businesses who come together for a day of fun, while still supporting the Junior Achievement movement.

 The locale for this event was absolutely spectacular, and featured stunning vistas of the Superstition Mountains. Rolling hills of the green fairways and bright sunshine created a perfect day for shooting.

 

As the sun was rising, attendees began entering the venue and we set up to capture the opening festivities. Half our team used the Glidecam and captured Broll around the prize tables, while the other half of our team used the slider to shoot participants as they arrived.

 

Using the slider is a great way for us to add a powerful aesthetic to our shots. It provides steady movement, and only takes seconds to set up. We use this tool on many of our shoots, as it is much easier in tight spaces than a dolly.

 

After the morning festivities, we piled into a golf cart and drove around the course. Using our Glidecam we captured golfers teeing off, and one of the sponsor's race cars. Taking advantage of the golf cart, we also shot moving shots of the participants and the beautiful greens. As the event came to a close, we finished the day shooting interviews. Working with Junior Achievement was a great way to end the week and we enjoyed doing it.
